Council to appoint club liaison officer
Cllr Mike Crowe has this week confirmed that Galway City Council is to appoint a Club Liaison Officer to liase with the many sporting clubs through out Galway City.
“Galway City Council owns many green areas across Galway which include numerous pitches. These pitches are licensed to clubs on an annual basis. For many years now clubs are facing serious challenges in the general maintenance of their pitch and particularly in close season. I have first hand experience of this in my position as Chairman of Renmore Soccer Club. What I have sought for sometime is an individual to be appointed who can work directly with all clubs on the many issues involved in looking after their pitch area”.
“The problem currently is that there is no point person in City Hall who does this and clubs are unsure who to contact or where to go when they have issues regarding there surface or the immediate surrounding area. The pitches need rest, upgrading and general maintenance in the off-season and can also need other works during the year.”
“For the last number of months I have had several meetings with Officials in the Environment Department in City Hall and this week I have received confirmation and am delighted to announce that a Club Liaison Officer will be appointed shortly who will work directly with all clubs on all aspects of pitch care and maintenance”
“As a result of this, Clubs will have a direct line in to the relevant person in Galway City Council. Its my belief that this position will be welcomed by all of the sporting organisations across Galway City and will make life a lot easier on Clubs.” concluded Crowe
